Scenic Projects - Our story............
The company was formed in 1996 out of an idea to provide the best possible scenery and service the Community Theatre network, which until this time had been reasonably low key. We believed that many Societies, Educational and Theatre schools want to replicate what was on display in the West End and on Broadway, but in a smaller, simpler way......... That was our challenge.
We were unknown, untested and had very few contacts in the Community Theatre circuit, but we had a great opportunity with the release of Musical rights to ‘Singin in the Rain’.
The challenge was tough and we set out to design a set which was visually outstanding, covered all the scenes and delivered the rain, on tap!
It was a tall challenge, but with our experience of working within the Theme and Leisure Park industry we felt this is something we could achieve. The problem was being able to do this for a price which was commercially viable.
Our Singin in the Rain set was a massive success for us in terms of placing Scenic Projects well and truly on the road, but it took several years for us to become a serious player.
The position changed for us with the purchase of ‘Stagesets’ of London and subsequently SLX, the scenery division of Stage Electrics. It felt that overnight we became the biggest supplier of scenery in the UK. That in itself has brought on more challenges for the company in dealing with volume and ensuring quality and we continue to work to ensure excellence in customer service, quality of product and value for money. We will never be the leased expensive supplier, but we aim to be the best.
The development of our Design studio and Scenic workshops have brought in other clients, designing and building for the likes of Cunard, Seabourn, P&O, Holland America and Carnival Cruise Lines, River Island, also for KFC, QDOS, National Theatre, River Island and Amnesty International to name a few and over the next few years we plan to increase the volume of work going through our studios.
Scenic Projects was born through the love of theatre by its owners and staff and its success continues through repeat business in us delivering the core objectives we started out to do.
We are proud of our core business. We service the Community and Professional world alike offering the same service.
We are no ordinary scenery company, we design, we build we hire we transport and store………… and we service over 600 customer a year……………..
